HeyRua is operated by Beim Digital Ltd. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect your information when you visit the HeyRua website, use the HeyRua mobile application, create an account, purchase or manage a subscription, contact us, or otherwise interact with our services.

By using HeyRua, you acknowledge the data practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Who We Are

HeyRua is an Irish language-learning platform designed to help users learn Irish through speaking, listening, pronunciation practice, interactive lessons, flashcards and guided conversations.

Beim Digital Ltd. is the controller of the personal data described in this Privacy Policy, except where another organisation acts as an independent controller, such as Apple in connection with App Store payments.

2. Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you use HeyRua and the features you choose to access.

### Account Information

When you create or manage a HeyRua account, we may collect:

* Your name
* Your email address
* A username, user ID or account identifier
* Authentication and login information
* Account preferences and settings
* Your selected learning level, experience or goals

Passwords may be processed through our authentication provider. HeyRua does not have access to your password in readable form.

### Learning and Progress Information

When you use HeyRua, we may collect information about your learning activity, including:

* Lessons started and completed
* Course, unit and level progress
* Scores and pronunciation results
* Streaks, achievements and similar progress information
* Flashcard and revision activity
* Speaking and conversation practice results
* Selected learning preferences
* Answers submitted during learning activities
* App interactions and feature usage

We use this information to provide the service, save your progress and personalise your learning experience.

### Voice and Microphone Data

HeyRua includes speaking, pronunciation and conversation features that require access to your device’s microphone.

When you choose to use one of these features, HeyRua may record a short sample of your voice and transmit it securely to a speech-processing provider, such as Microsoft Azure Speech Services. The audio is processed to recognise your speech, assess pronunciation or generate learning feedback.

HeyRua may retain the resulting transcript, pronunciation score, correction, completion result or other learning feedback as part of your learning progress.

HeyRua does not intentionally retain your raw voice recording after it is no longer required to process the speaking activity, unless a particular feature clearly tells you otherwise before recording begins.

Speech-processing providers may temporarily process technical and audio data as necessary to deliver their services, maintain security and prevent abuse. Their handling of that data is governed by our agreements with them and their applicable privacy documentation.

Your voice recordings are not sold. HeyRua does not use your voice recordings to identify you biometrically.

HeyRua does not use your voice recordings to train publicly available artificial intelligence models.

Microphone access only occurs when you have granted permission through your device. You can withdraw microphone access through your iPhone settings. Disabling microphone access may prevent speaking and pronunciation features from working.

### Conversation and User Content

Where HeyRua provides interactive conversation, support or text-entry features, we may process:

* Text that you type or submit
* Irish or English phrases spoken during learning activities
* Transcripts generated from your speech
* Corrections and feedback generated in response
* Messages sent to our support team
* Feedback submitted about the app or a lesson

You should not submit confidential, sensitive or unnecessary personal information through learning exercises or open text fields.

### Subscription and Purchase Information

HeyRua may offer free trials, subscriptions and other in-app purchases.

Purchases made through the iOS app are processed by Apple through the App Store. HeyRua does not receive or store your full payment card number or full payment credentials.

We may receive limited purchase and subscription information, including:

* Subscription status
* Product or subscription purchased
* Trial status
* Purchase date
* Renewal or expiry date
* Transaction or purchase identifier
* Refund or cancellation status
* The country or storefront associated with the purchase

We use this information to activate paid access, manage entitlements, provide customer support and maintain financial and transaction records.

Apple processes payment information in accordance with its own privacy policy and acts independently in relation to certain App Store data.

### Device and Technical Information

When you use the website or app, we or our service providers may automatically collect technical information such as:

* IP address
* Device type and model
* Operating system and version
* Browser type
* App version
* Device or installation identifiers
* Language and regional settings
* Approximate location derived from an IP address
* Date, time and duration of use
* Screens viewed and features used
* Crash reports
* Performance and diagnostic information
* Network and connectivity information

We use this information to operate, secure, diagnose and improve HeyRua.

We do not collect your precise GPS location unless a feature clearly requests it and you separately grant permission.

If you contact us, join a mailing list or request support, we may collect:

* Your communication preferences
* Information needed to investigate and respond to your request

3. How We Use Your Information

We do not sell your personal data.

We process information where necessary to create your account, provide lessons, save progress, process speaking activities, manage access and otherwise deliver the HeyRua service you requested.

We may process information where necessary for our legitimate interests, provided those interests do not override your rights. These interests include:

* Operating and improving HeyRua
* Understanding how the service is used
* Maintaining app and account security
* Preventing misuse and fraud
* Providing customer support
* Diagnosing technical problems
* Managing and developing our business

We rely on consent where required, including for:

* Microphone access
* Optional notifications
* Certain cookies or analytics
* Marketing communications
* Any processing that legally requires consent

You may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before consent was withdrawn.

### Legal Obligations

We may process or retain information where required to comply with tax, accounting, consumer protection, regulatory or other legal obligations.

## 5. Microphone and Speech Permissions

HeyRua is designed around learning Irish through speaking. Certain features therefore require microphone access.

Microphone access is used only when needed to:

* Record a pronunciation attempt
* Recognise a spoken word or phrase
* Assess pronunciation
* Participate in an interactive speaking activity
* Generate speech-related learning feedback

HeyRua does not continuously listen through your microphone.

Microphone permission is requested through the operating system. You can manage or withdraw this permission through:

**iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone**

You may also be able to manage HeyRua’s microphone access through the HeyRua entry in your iPhone Settings.

Disabling microphone permission may prevent speaking features from functioning, but you may still be able to access features that do not require speech.

6. Notifications

HeyRua may request permission to send push notifications.

Notifications may include:

* Learning reminders
* Streak reminders
* Account and subscription information
* Service announcements
* Information about new learning content

You can enable or disable notifications through your device settings.

Notification delivery may involve Apple Push Notification Service and a notification service provider. These services may process a device or installation identifier required to deliver the notification.

## 7. Analytics and Diagnostics

We may use analytics and diagnostic tools to understand how HeyRua performs and how users interact with it.

These tools may collect information such as:

* App opens and session activity
* Features and screens used
* Lesson completion events
* Subscription and paywall events
* General device and operating-system information
* Crash reports and error logs
* Performance and diagnostic information

We use analytics to improve HeyRua, identify problems and understand whether features are useful.

Where legally required, non-essential analytics will only be enabled after obtaining consent.

The HeyRua website may use cookies and similar technologies to:

* Understand website usage
* Measure performance

Essential cookies may be used where necessary for the website to function.

9. Third-Party Service Providers

We use third-party service providers to operate and improve HeyRua. Depending on the app version and features you use, these may include:

### Apple

Apple processes App Store purchases, subscriptions, refunds, subscription management and certain app distribution and device services.

Apple may also process crash, diagnostic or analytics data where you have chosen to share that information with app developers through your Apple device settings.

Microsoft Azure

Microsoft Azure services may be used to process speech, pronunciation and voice-related requests.

Audio and associated technical information may be transmitted to Microsoft’s systems to recognise speech, assess pronunciation or return speech-related results.

### Google Firebase

Firebase services may be used for app infrastructure, authentication, data storage, analytics, crash reporting, configuration and notification functionality.

Firebase may process account identifiers, installation identifiers, app interactions, technical information, crash information and other data needed to provide the configured services.

### Adapty

Adapty may be used to manage subscription entitlements, paywalls, free trials and subscription analytics.

Adapty may process app-user identifiers, purchase information, subscription status, paywall interactions and related technical information. Adapty does not process your full payment card details.

### Communications and Hosting Providers

We may use hosting, email, customer-support and communications providers to store app data, operate our website, deliver emails and respond to user requests.

These providers may only process personal data where necessary to provide their contracted services to us.

Our service providers are required to protect personal data and process it in accordance with applicable law and contractual obligations.

10. How We Share Information

We may share personal data with:

* Hosting and cloud-infrastructure providers
* Authentication and database providers
* Speech and voice-processing providers
* Subscription-management providers
* Analytics and crash-reporting providers
* Notification and communications providers
* Customer-support providers
* Professional advisers such as accountants, auditors and legal advisers

We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to:

* Establish, exercise or defend legal claims
* Facilitate a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring or transfer of all or part of our business

Where a business transfer occurs, personal data may be transferred as part of the transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards and applicable law.

11. Advertising and Tracking

HeyRua does not sell personal data.

HeyRua does not currently use personal data collected through the app to track users across apps or websites owned by other companies for targeted advertising.

If our practices change and Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework applies, we will request permission before carrying out tracking as defined by Apple.

We may measure the general effectiveness of marketing campaigns using aggregated, limited or privacy-protective information where legally permitted.

## 12. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

Our general retention approach is:

* Account and learning-progress data is normally retained while your account remains active.
* Raw voice recordings are not intentionally retained by HeyRua after the relevant speaking request has been processed, unless a feature clearly states otherwise.
* Transcripts, scores and learning results may be retained as part of your account and progress.
* Subscription and transaction records may be retained for the period required for accounting, tax, fraud-prevention and legal purposes.
* Support communications may be retained for up to three years after the request is resolved, unless a longer period is necessary for legal or security reasons.
* Analytics, crash and diagnostic data is retained according to our configured provider settings and for no longer than reasonably necessary to analyse and improve the service.
* Data associated with a deleted account will be deleted or anonymised, except where retention is required or permitted by law.

We may retain limited records of deletion requests, financial transactions, disputes, fraud-prevention measures or legal obligations after an account has been deleted.

13. Account Deletion

You can request deletion of your HeyRua account from within the app.

To begin account deletion:

1. Open HeyRua.
2. Open your account or settings section.
3. Select the account-deletion option.
4. Follow the instructions shown in the app.

You may also contact hey@heyrua.ie if you experience difficulty accessing the deletion feature.

Deleting your account will delete or anonymise eligible account information, learning progress and associated personal data, subject to information that we are legally required or permitted to retain.

Deleting your HeyRua account does not automatically cancel an active Apple subscription.

You must separately cancel an Apple subscription through your Apple ID subscription settings:

**iPhone Settings → Your Name → Subscriptions → HeyRua**

Account deletion may be subject to a short verification or processing period where necessary to protect your account from accidental or fraudulent deletion.

14. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against:

* Unauthorised access
* Accidental loss
* Misuse
* Alteration
* Unauthorised disclosure
* Destruction

These measures may include access controls, authentication, encrypted transmission, restricted staff access, security monitoring and the use of reputable infrastructure providers.

However, no internet transmission, mobile application or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

You are responsible for protecting your login information and for notifying us if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.

15. International Data Transfers

Some service providers may process or store information outside Ireland or the European Economic Area.

Where personal data is transferred internationally, we use appropriate safeguards as required by applicable data protection law.

These safeguards may include:

* European Commission adequacy decisions
* Standard Contractual Clauses
* Contractual and technical safeguards
* Other legally approved transfer mechanisms

You may contact us for further information about the safeguards applicable to relevant international transfers.

16. Your Data Protection Rights

If you are located in Ireland, the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar rights, you may have the right to:

* Access the personal data we hold about you

* Request deletion of your personal data
* Request restriction of certain processing
* Object to processing based on legitimate interests
* Receive certain data in a portable format
* Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission or another competent supervisory authority.

17. Children’s Privacy

HeyRua is not intended for use by children under 16 without the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian.

We do not knowingly allow a child under 16 to independently create an account where parental or guardian consent is legally required.

A parent or legal guardian who permits a child under 16 to use HeyRua is responsible for supervising the child’s use of the service and providing any consent required by applicable law.

If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child without the required authorisation, we will take reasonable steps to delete the information or obtain appropriate consent.

Parents and guardians who believe a child has provided personal data without appropriate permission should contact hey@heyrua.ie.

HeyRua is not currently submitted to Apple’s Kids Category unless expressly stated on its App Store listing.

18. Third-Party Links and Services

HeyRua may contain links to third-party websites, content or services.

We do not control and are not responsible for the privacy, security or content practices of independent third parties.

You should review the privacy policies of third-party services before providing personal data to them.

19. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect:

* Changes to HeyRua
* New or changed features
* Changes to our service providers
* Changes to our data practices
* Legal or regulatory developments
* Security or operational requirements

When we update the policy, we will change the “Last updated” date at the beginning of the document.
